Job Description
Sydney Medical Service is a very well established not for profit organisation operating for over 60 years attending to patients in their private residence and residential aged care facilities during the entire after hour period in the Sydney metropolitan area.
Our medical director role is a hybrid position.
Duties
- To provide advice to the Board of directors of SMS
- Participation in the initial interview of prospective practitioners and ongoing clinical review and accompany each new locum GP on first supervised shift
- Provision of advice to Practitioner on clinical issues
- Deal with clinical complaints from patients/practices about after hours doctors
- Follow-up special management patients when doctor-to-doctor discussion is required
- Deal with patients who require a Medical Director intervention in relation to their treatment
- Governance of all clinical aspects of the service
- Overseeing accreditation requirements in setting policies as per RACGP standards and Infection prevention and control
- CPD session, that is, internal education/training session, peer review sessions
- Review medical records and speak to doctors not meeting the standard
- Be on-call for any questions that might arise after hours, for example, pathology results, clinical problems or operator advice
- Represent in public arena when a medical person is necessary
- Assist with or write proposals grants
- Attend meetings with Directors, PHN or government department where need arises
- Follow-up any questions relating to provider numbers, medical board, medical defence, etc, if director needs assistance.
Qualifications
Must be a vocationally registered General Practitioner with a minimum of five years’ Australian general practice experience.
Desirable
Experience in the after hour sector.
Connections with organisations such as AGPAL, QPA, RACGP, AMA, Australian Doctor, Medical Observer, etc.
Registered supervisor with the RACGP
Reporting Structure
Board of Directors of Sydney Medical Service in relation to all clinical issues.
Chief Executive Officer for non clinical nature.
